World Series Of Poker Day 22 Review

Mark Schmid won the only WSOP bracelet to be awarded on Day 22, while Vanessa Selbst and Tom durrrr Dwan have gone deep in the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event. For more on these stories and for all the latest from the 42nd annual World Series of Poker, read on.

WSOP Event #34 $1,000 No Limit Holdem Mark Schmid had cashed five times at the World Series of Poker prior to this year, his best score coming in last years $1,500 Shootout where he finished 54th for $5,620. This year though, he has far surpassed that previous best, winning WSOP Event #34 and collecting an impressive $488,283.

Schmid had to fend off a sizeable field of 3,144, including the likes of Dwyte Pilgrim (70th, for $5,319), Lars Bonding (192nd, for $2,320) and Barry Shulman (258th, for $2,093), eventually overcoming Australian Justin Cohen at the heads up stage.

The final hand came when Schmid made a queen high flush with his pocket queens and Cohen shoved with his trip sevens. Schmid announced I dont see how I can fold before making the call and securing the gold WSOP bracelet.

WSOP Event #35 $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha Fifteen players remain in what is a stacked $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha tournament. The last three players to bust before the end of the days poker were Tom Dwan, Vanessa Selbst and Erick Lindgren, which provides a snapshot of just how packed with poker talent this field has been.

Still remaining in the hunt for the WSOP bracelet and the $619,575 first prize are Britains Dave Devilfish Ulliot and Chris Moorman, as well as Jason Mercier, Mike McDonald and Peter Jetten. Gregory Brooks, winner of the 2011 LA Poker Classic, currently tops the chip counts.

507 players bought into WSOP Event #35 two days ago, creating a prize pool of $2,382,900.

WSOP Event #36 $2,500 No Limit Holdem Day 2 of the latest No Limit Holdem tournament is completed, with Martin Rettenmaier sitting pretty at the head of the chip counts. The young German has four World Series of Poker cashes to his name, as well as a big showing at the 2010 World Poker Tour Amneville Main Event and he will be looking to add a WSOP bracelet to his CV this time around.

Plenty of other notable names from the world of poker got involved in this event, such as recent WSOP bracelet winner Andy Frankenberger, as well as Liv Boeree, Jason De Witt, Jonathan Duhamel, Isaac Haxton and Sorel Mizzi, but none of those players were able to make much impact, all of them crashing out on the first day.

Plenty of big guns did make it through to Day 2 though, such as Dwyte Pilgrim, Gavin Smith, Eric Baldwin, Lars Bonding, J.C. Tran and Randal Flowers.

Tom Dwan played a single hand in the tournament too. His stack had been blinded away thanks to his efforts in the Pot Limit Omaha event and when he eventually approached the table, he never even got around to sitting down before shoving his 6 7 suited. He found a caller holding K 9 suited and the board provided two pair for Dwans opponent. Eric Baldwin commented on this amusing situation, saying that Dwan had played his solitary hand in a runners stance.

308 of the original 1,734 entries qualified for Day 2, where players will be competing for a chunk of the $3,944,850 kitty. The tournament winner will pocket $749,610 of that, with $463,480 reserved for the runner up and $305,015 for the third place finisher.

WSOP Event #37 $10,000 HORSE Championship The second WSOP event to kick off yesterday was the $10,000 buy in HORSE Championship. 240 players bought in to the event just one player shy of last years total and the field is stacked with top quality professional poker players.

The likes of Daniel Negreanu, Eugene Katchalov, Erick Lindgren, Robert Mizrachi, John Juanda and Barry Greenstein all remain in the hunt for a share of the $2,256,000 prize pool, while others such as Phil Hellmuth, Jean-Robert Bellande, Miami John Cernuto and Cyndy Violette hit the Day 1 rail.

174 made it to Day 2 and leading the chase for the latest WSOP bracelet and the $609,130 first prize is Ron Grumpy Ware. The total prize pool stands at $2,256,000.

Kicking off later in the Day we have the $2,500 Pot Limit Omaha / Pot Limit Holdem mix, as well as another $1,500 No Limit Holdem tournament. Check back to RoundersPalace.com for all the latest news from the 2011 World Series of Poker.
