Full Tilt’s “Challenge Durrrr” Winner Disqualified

Full Tilt Poker‘s “Challenge durrrr” promotion drew to a close this weekend, but amid controversial circumstances.
The promotion, which offered online poker players the chance to play Tom “durrrr” Dwan across four heads up tables, came to a close at the weekend, but the player to eventually take on Dwan was not the player announced as the promotion’s winner.
Full Tilt Poker‘s “Challenge Durrrr” competition has been underway since late February, with players required to complete a series of online poker qualification stages. The last of these was a “Matrix” tournament, where the nine poker players faced each other in four simultaneous Sit N Go tournaments, the winner being determined by the number of opponents eliminated, as well as the number of opponents outlasted.
That winner was announced by Full Tilt Poker as being “svetamillion”, but come this weekend’s final match against Tom Dwan himself, the player involved was the Matrix tournament’s runner up – “inorej” – with no explanation offered by Full Tilt.
A representative of the online poker site has since told reporters the following: “I can confirm that the player who got first place in the Matrix portion of the promo was disqualified. I can also say it didn’t have anything to do with the Matrix itself.”
No further explanation has been given and online poker forums have been humming with rumour and speculation, with possible explanations including collusion in the earlier rounds, as well as having different people operating the account throughout the various “Challenge durrrr” stages.
The final itself was shortlived. Tom “durrrr” Dwan beat “inorej” on all four tables of Pot Limit Omaha in around 75 minutes, to deny “inorej” any further prize money, with Full Tilt Poker making a $40,000 donation to the Japanese earthquake victims as a result.
Dwan himself seemed unaware of the controversy, commenting: “Curious about the back story – 1st I’m hearing of this”.
