Open Auditions for Ft. Lauderdale $5K Stand Up Comedy Event

When most of us are developing our professional skills it’s not in off front drunken hecklers. A lot of people get to fall on their faces safely behind a desk. The stand up comic is a breed apart. Watching someone, especially someone new to the game, walking that tight rope is what makes live stand up like no other art form. It can range from the highest form of social and political commentary like the revolutionary Lenny Bruce to the just plain silly like the brilliant Emo Philips.
South Florida has it’s share of brave souls willing to drop their pants in public (there are a lot of stand up comics around here too). The 2011 Mardi Gras Stand Up Comedy Challenge begins this August when the Dawg House Sports Bar becomes Hollywood Florida’s hottest entertainment venue. Hundreds of comics will audition for a chance to open for comedy legend Paula Poundstone at the world famous Hollywood Florida Racetrack on October 22nd. The winner will also take home $5,000, the most ever given away in a South Florida Comedy Challenge.
Open Auditions are coming up on August 12th & 13th. All you need is 3 killer minutes of material and you’ll have a shot to advance to the showcase round of 40 the following week. The semi-finals will go on all summer with headliners like Marion Grodin, Lady Roz G, Sarge, Eddie Brill and Michele Balan. The five surviving contestants along with one wild card chosen by the public will battle October 6th in the final round headlined by veteran funnyman Bobby Collins. Sign up online for an audition today.
