Thursday night was an exciting night for both the Big Easy Poker Room and the Hillel community. Mardi Gras Florida Casino in Hallandale Beach was host of Hillel’s 7th annual Texas Hold’em Tournament that broke records for attendance and fundraising. The tournament drew nearly 200 players, including Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi and the Mizrachi family. After a delicious buffet and an autograph session with the Mizrachi family in the Dawg House Sports Bar, players made their way to their seats ready to battle for the $10,000 first prize. After over six hours of poker and tens of thousands of dollars raised for Hillel, the tournament ended with the top two players, Richard Goihman and Marc Levy chopping the first place prize and charitably donating the second place prize to Hillel.

Talk about guys with juice…Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi won the World Series of Poker $50,000 Players Championship last year. Team Mizrachi includes his brother Robert also a big time pro and their two other bros Eric and Donnie Mizrachi. At the 2010 World Series of Poker “The Grinder”, was awarded $1,559,043, his first gold bracelet, and the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy. Robert placed 5th setting a new World Series of Poker record for a pair of brothers. “The Grinder” was Card Player’s 2006 Player of the year and his lifetime earnings are now in excess of $11 million. He got his nickname for always “grinding” his way through poker tournament fields. No-limit Hold’em is “The Grinders” game.

The appearance from the Mizrachi Family helped make it a night to remember. Hillel would like to offer a special thanks to all of the event’s generous sponsors.
