Mardi Gras Casino’s French Quarter Restaurant & Bar participated in the annual Las Olas Food & Wine Festival on Friday evening, April 30th. A crowd of 3,000 people was expected. However, the afternoon brought thunderstorms that kept all of the participants from setting up their tables and preparing their food presentations for several hours while the rain fell in torrents. At around 6:30pm the rain let up enough for us to set up and by 7:30pm, there were crowds of Tasters who had paid over $60 for a ticket to taste the best food in South Florida.
All of the proceeds from this event went to the American Lung Association.
Chef Alex, executive chef, at Mardi Gras Casino, prepared a “Surf and Turf Roulade” that was absolutely delicious. The dish was a huge success as Chef Alex and his assistants dished out almost 3,000 plates of roulades.
The Las Olas Wine & Food Festival has been taking place for well over a decade. The event was originally held in November to celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau. Several years later it was moved to the Spring. When the festival began, the street was not closed and tastings took place in merchant locations and on the sidewalks. As the event grew and more vendors became involved, it started spilling over into the street, which is why today the street is now closed for the festival. Hopefully next year the weather will hold off and the crowds will be back for what has turned out to be an annual Fort Lauderdale attraction.
